how do i network both of these together in one network?

The default network settings in Windows XP and Windows 2000 should
allow them to network with each other.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on XP to fully enable file sharing:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard

The Wizard won't run on Windows 2000. To make networking a little
easier, set the Windows 2000 workgroup name to the same workgroup name
that XP uses (default is MSHOME).
