OK. I finally bit the bullet and installed XP on my
desktop. I still can't get either one to recognize the
other, and can't get online with my laptop.

Any help would be appreciated.

How are they connected? To what and how?

We can't read your mind! : )

While I have to say that more information would be
helpful, try running the networking wizard. go to start,
then run, and type in inetwiz. Follow the prompts to
setup your home network.

The desktop is connected via ethernet to a NETGEAR
wireless router. The laptop has a wireless network
installed. For the internet, the desktop is connected to
the wireless router to the Motorola cable modem.

I tried the XP wizard. I will try your way. Should I
assume you are talking about doing this on my laptop or
both laptop and desktop

Both - Do it on the computer that's connected via cable to the router
first. Be VERY sure you look at the examples of network setups for each
choice.

Then run it on the other (wireless) system.

Can the both access the internet?

Hi

I would take it few steps, and No step Jumping since if it does not work in
step 1 or 2 it would not work in step 3 etc.

1. Install the (or check manfully if already installed) the Network:

2. Make sure that you can connect to the Internet using the Wired Desktop:

3. Install the Wireless

Wireless - Basic Configuration: http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html

4. Make sure that the Wireless can surf the Internet.

5. Install and configure File sharing: http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
