Networking two XP Pro machines

I have a desktop, my son has a laptop. The router is attached to mine
directly and wirelessly connects to laptop.
I want complete access to my son's laptop, but only to share certain
folders on mine.
A "practicallynetworked" tutorial recommended placing all users on
both computers (to take advantage of signing on once on your system
and letting the network verify your password when you access network
resources). Seems reasonable, but raises a ?-- If I am an
administrator on my PC and my son is an admin. on his laptop, does it
matter if his account on my PC is an administrator account or can it
be a limited account? Obviously if it has to be an admin account,
there is little point in trying to restrict anything, since all he has
to do if he can't get to it on the network is to come to my PC and
logon.

Hello
You do not need to assign accounts to each of you on each computer.
First go to Control Panel>Folder Options>View>then check the box Use Simple
File Sharing.
Second- Control Panel>Network Connections>right click>Properties then
install Client For MS Network, File Printer Sharing, Net Bios Protocol, then
click Advanced Tab disable the firewall.
click OK and go back to the Network Connection Page
Third - click on Create a Home Network run the wizard (on the desktop)
create a floppy, run the floppy on the laptop and that should do it.
