networking trouble

the power went out to my son's computer (window's XP),it
was networked to my computer (Win 98 second ed) the driver
got uninstalled somehow when the power went out. we did
system restore and anytime we try uninstall/repair/install
etheernet adapter the system locks up. He can no longer
access any computer on the network or the internet. Can
anyone please help?

all that is set ok. the problem is with the driver. Any
time we try to uninstall or repair it the program stops
responding.
