networking to xp problems

I've got a win2000pro and a winxp home networked
First problem is winxp comp needs to put in a username and password before
accessing the win2000 comp.
Second, accessing the workgroup from win2000 can take over a minute.
And lastly networking games, the winxp machine can see win2000 in the games
lobby but win2000 machine can't.
win2000 = 192.168.10.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
winxp = 192.168.10.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Win2000 machine has Norton internet security 2005, which is allowing full
access to 192.168.10.2
Win2000 has 2 network cards 1 connected to winxp and the other to a cable
modem.

Hope this makes sense
Thanks in advance

1. - user accounts. Each of Windows 2000 and Windows XP have their own
"security database". To access something on the other computer, that
computer has to authenticate you using a user account it knows about. A
simple solution is to create the same username with the same password on
both computers, then you can logon to either with that username and password
and access things from the other machine without having to key the username
and password again.

2. it is not clear what exactly you mean by "accessing the workgroup".
However, I would ensure that "NetBIOS over TCP/IP" is enabled on both
computers. On the Windows 2000 computer, enable it on the NIC connected to
the WinXP computer, but not the one connected to the cable modem.

3. what Service Pack is on the XP computer? If it is SP1, disable the
Internet Connection Firewall. If it is SP2, the Windows Firewall may be
blocking communication on the ports used by the "game lobby" (sorry, don't
do intercomputer gaming!). If this is the case, your choice is either
disable the SP2 Firewall (not recommended, except temporarily to see if this
is the problem) or add Exceptions for either the required ports or the
programs involved.
