wrong subnet

Louie

Some computers on our Win2000 DHCP server network sometimes display an
incorrect subnet mask 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0 and cannot access
some network drives. Does someone know why this happens?
The computers it happens to are Win98SE and WinXP.
Thanks for any info on this issue.

These computers that are picking up incorrect subnet masks, are they also
picking up incorrect IP addresses 169.254.xxx.xxx possibly? If so then they
are not picking up addresses from your dhcp server at all. If the ip
addresses look like they have the correct network ID then I would say you
possibly have a rogue DHCP server on your network somewhere. Good Luck.
