Hello. Weve recently purchased a router (speedtouch 576) which is wired to
our pc via ethernet we now wish to share our internet connection with a
laptop via a wireless card. Is this possible and if so how would I go about
setting it up? thankyou. Adam.

Adam,

Since the desktop computer is already connected to the router, the router is,
hopefully, working.
1) Make sure that the radio, on the router, is activated.

2) Run the Network Setup Wizard on the laptop, and select
This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or
through a residential gateway.

3) Once you get the laptop online, get WPA security working on the router. Do
the configuring from the desktop, as you test from the laptop.

If the laptop is wired, you may need a hub/switch. If it is wireless, you don't need hub/switch. Or you may setup ICS on the PC.

How to setup Windows ICS In addition, the ICS host provides DHCP to ICS clients. Client computers are protected ... Only the computer running ICS is seen from the public side. ...

Im afraid none of that really helped. Ive tried running the home network
setup wizard on XP but after it completes on both computers nothing happens
there is still no ICS happening.

OK, let's diagnose the problem. Look at "ipconfig /all" from both computers.

Forget about ICS, you don't need it. The router is all that you need.

Well, the laptop is not connecting. So that's where you gotta start.
169.254.157.224 is an APIPA address.
1) Is the radio turned on, on the router AND the laptop?
2) Are you certain that you're associating with YOUR router. Is the SSID
enabled, and is it unique?

Adam,

I have a watch on this thread. Come back when you have questions.

Hey Chuck. Im not sure what Ive done but weve sorted it. I went to
http://speedtouch.lan and configured a couple of things ( I think it may have
been due to the WEP key or something) but thanks for helping me sort
everything out youve been a great help. Adam.

Hi Chuck,
Can you please help? I have a similar problem:

desk top connected wireless to wireless router and 1 laptop also connected
wireless to wireless router.
Problem: The Dell computer can see the other 2 computers and can access
share folders from the other 2 but the other 2 computers can not access the

look into
view work group computers, I do see all three computer names. I have tried
many things but still can't make the Dell's computer accessible to the other
