Networking problem

G

Gregary

I have two IBM compatible PC running Windows 2000.

I originally had the host computer setup with a dialup internet connection
which I had successfully shared with the client PC.

Recently we switched to adsl broadband with a one port USB/ethernet hub.

I have ICS enabled for the new connection in "Network & Dialup Connections".

However the client computer cannot access the connection.

Can anyone point me in the direction of likely causes for this failure?

this is an easy one, i think. ICS is for dial-up only. you don't need it
for dsl and may actually need to disable or uninstall it to get the other pc
to connect through the network. you will need a hub or dsl router to
network the pc's together and then to the dsl modem. hope this helps

The best way that I would share a single ADSL connection is to purchase an ADSL Broadband Router with a 5 port ethernet switch. Install simple ethernet network cards and connect up with network cables and this would allow both computers to access the broadband connection at the same time. If cables are a problem then you can buy wireless units and get a ADSL Broadband router with wi-fi. The hole thing may only cost between £30 and £50 for the entire solution.

Hope this helps as an alternative !
