Networking Problem

Hi all..... I have 3 machines connected to my home network.
(1) desktop running XP Home
(2) desktop running Win 98SE
(3) laptop running Win 2000 PRO

I can access all machines from the desktop running xp no problem. I can
copy and paste files. I can use both the laptop and the machine running
98SE to copy and paste files on each other. However if I try to use the
laptop and win 98SE machine to access the xp machine I get the following
message "not enough server storage is available to process this command"
from the laptop and "not enough memory available, close some programs"
on the 98SE machine. I can see the files on the xp machine but I cannot
access them. File and hard drive sharing is enabled on all machines.

The funny thing is ...... this is a new problem. I never had any
problems for about a year, went on vacation for a month so the computers
were shut down and when I returned this problem appeared.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there
I think I saw this many moons ago. It is a bit of a wild shot but try this.
First as this invoves a registry edit ensure you have a backup!! or export a
reg file before doing this.

This involves checking that the WinXP machine has a default IRPStackSize
Start the registry editor (e.g., type regedit.exe from Run ).
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters.

Double-click IRPStackSize (or if this registry setting doesn't exist, create
it of type DWORD and ensure the case is correct).
Change the base to decimal, set the value to 15 for XP, and click OK.
Reboot the computer.

Can't guarantee anything but it won't do any harm.

Thanks for the reply. Googling it shows, however, that it has nothing to
do with my problem. XP apparently sets this parameter on the fly.

Fair enough Newfdog. I think the issue may be more that some badly behaved
app has or is changing the xp default set on the fly or not.
