Hi,
I have a windows XP machine and a 98 machine on a network and they are both
on the same workgroup. Both machines can see the 98 machine but the XP
machine will not appear on either machine so I am unable to share files and
a printer that is attached to the XP machine.

I have tried to stop sharing and then re-share using the MS Wizard, I have
changed workgroup and then changed back again and I have turned Windows
Firewall off and also disabled any antivirus. When I click on View workgroup
computers on the XP machine only the 98 machine shows.

What should I be doing to get the XP machine to see it's self?

Cheers
Lenny

Hello Lenny,

In XP, check that the Workstation and Computer Browser services are
set to Automatic and Started. Go to Start => Run => and type in
"services.msc" {without the quotes}. You should maximize the Services
window to make it easier to see. Right-click on each of these services
and select Properties. Set to Automatic and Start them.

i have a similar issue where my new hp pc with xp i cannot see it on the my
workgroup i do not uderstand my 2 other ones are fine. can someone help?
