Networking issue - connecting to a domain without being a member

I just bought a Windows Vista laptop and I'm trying to figure things out.

I used to have a personal XP laptop that I took to work(win 2000 network).
I was able to login to the domain w/o being a member of the domain. I could
access drives on that domain and print on the network printers.

I can't figure out how to get my Vista laptop to do the same thing. I can
access the internet, but that's it. What settings do I need to set/change so
that I can access that network?

You don't say what version of vista.
If it is Home Premium or Basic, you can't log onto a domain.

If it is Business, Ultimate or Enterprise, the domain's Admin has to set it
up,not you.
