Networking in Vista

It seems to me that Vista has some more work to do before it is ready for
prime time. I had major problems with Networking and Internet access until
I got a fix and now I am able to connect to the net perfectly and I can see
my network computers from Vista. I have yet not been able to extablish
remote control of Vista from any network computer (keeps asking for an ID
and PW which I haven't figured out yet). I am also unable to get access to
the wireless network of the Lynksys router working. Hope that MS works out
the kinks perfore final release of Vista. Some of it is hardware related
since some hardware and software have not been adapted to Vista yet.

A lot of things for networking in Vista is turned off by default, make sure
you turn on Network Discovery, File Sharing, Public folder sharing and
password protected sharing under Network and Sharing Center. Also make sure
that Network Discovery is an exception under Windows Firewall.

If you are trying to connect remotely to your computer using Remote Desktop,
make sure connects are allowed from any version of RDP.

Click Start > right click Computer > Properties > under Task click Advanced
System Settings > Remote (tab) > under Remote Desktop select > "Allow
connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop.

I believe that I have done all of the things suggested. All file sharing,
etc is turned on and all drives are shared. The remote is configured to
connect to anyone running RDT.

I'll try to work some more on it tomorrow and see what I may have
overlooked.

I had the same problem when using my onboard network adapter. It
basically boils down to immature drivers. I bought a £3 /$5 Realtek
8139 based card and had no problems. RTL8192/8139 are extremely well
supported NIC chipsets.
