networking help needed please

Hi,
I have a notebook and a pc networked and internet shared happily until
recently, when I set up a network connection to my workplace in another
state. I was having trouble connecting to the shared drive at work so the
network tech at work advised me to change the ip of my notebook from
192.168.0.1 to 192.168.12.1, and the networked pc from192.168.0.2 to
192.168.12.3 to allow me to connect to the drive on the system at work which
uses 192.168.0.2 and was conflicting with my pc's ip .... I did this and can
connect to the other pc and the interstate drive no problem, but I can no
longer connect to the internet from the pc, even though it says I am
connected. What happens is that IE opens and then says it can't connect.
The icon for shared internet is in the task bar and reports being connected,
I have run the ics wizard too but this makes no difference.... if any one
can help me get connectivity I would be very appreciative.
If I have posted in the wrong group, apologies, and I would appreciate being
pointed in the right direction.
