networking gigabit with old NIC card on XP Pro

I have a new computer that I built and it has onboard
gigabit but my 3 year old Dell has an old NIC card that
my cable ISP(Cox) gave me. I can't seem to get the two
computers to network without useing netbios. I would
rather not use netbios and both puters are running XP
Pro. can someone give me some help? thanks

Hi,

Netbios is needed for home networking.
If you purely use TCP/IP then you will need a DNS or WINS
server to do the name resolving.
