Networking, crazy problem

I setup my new laptop connected to my desktop with an eithernet cable, ran
the network wizard and bingo was surfing in a jiffy. Then I ran the file
transfer wizard and transferred my files and settings from the desktop to the
laptop and can no longer access the internet. After two days of struggle, I
discovered I can access the secure sites, like Vanguard and my credit card
account, but I get "cannot find server" for everything else. Any help would
be appreciated.

Problem solved by computer whiz named Eric. click TOOLS,
INTERNET OPTIONS then tab CONNECTIONS and click
LAN SETTINGS. At the bottom of the window uncheck USE
A PROXY SERVER and at the top of the window check
AUTOMATICALLY DETECT SETTINGS.
No more file transfers for me. Hope my little (2 days of
frustration) helps others.
