Networking a WINXP-Home to a WIN98

Tried to run the networking wizard. Win98 system sees files on the XP system but cannot access them. WinXP cannot even get set up for networking because the Network Wizard will not make the disc needed to set up ICS, and because this is a POS computer with the OS already installed, there is no WINXP CD to use.

HOW DO I MAKE A NETWORK SET-UP DISC? When I get to that part of the wizard, it stops . . . never makes the disc, just sits there . . . literally for hours if you allow it

So, anybody got any ideas?

Hi, Bob. IMHO, do not bother to create a network setup disk - it's always
caused me big problems on the computer it gets used on.

Since you're using various versions of Windows, be sure you've installed the
NetBIOS protocol on all computers. 95/98/ME computers require reboot after
installing that protocol, NT/2K/XP do not require reboot after installing
it.

The following assumes a peer-to-peer network setup instead of a domain
server network setup.

Before it can be connected to, NT/2K/XP will require that a User account be
created of the same exact "computer name" that you see on the My Computer |
Properties | Network Identification tab on the computer that will be doing
the connecting to another computer. You must give that account necessary
privileges.

In a Peer to Peer network environment, computers only require that a
connecting computer supply a login and a password. When NT/2K/XP tries to
connect to a 95/98/ME shared resource (such as a shared folder on 95/98/ME
machines) you should get a login prompt, supply it the login and the
password info ONLY. When 95/98/ME tries to connect to NT/2K/XP again supply
only the login and password info, but the rsources that can be seen on the
NT/2K/XP machine will be those that the account has predefined privileges
for.

I hope this helps! Best wishes.
