Networking 2000 and 98

I don't know how to configure a network including my
Windows 2000 and 98. I tried, but 2000 is REALLY different
than 98, and I know 98 really well. Can someone help me
configure Windows 2000?

Hello Brian

Simply assign ip address within the same subnet, it will works.
You may ping the 98 or 2000 to make sure the configuration is correct.

Go into the help menu on the 2000 machine and look up "peer to peer
networking."

Of course, the TCP/IP setting must be setup first. You haven't explained
your topology, so I won't go into the recommended settings.

Once the two machines are connected and can ping each other, you need to be
aware of all the security builtin to 2000, specifically the need for
usernames and passwords that you MUST use, whereas Win9x didn't have that
requirement. You need to setup a username and password on the 2000 box and
login to the 98 box with the same username and password in order to access
any shares on the 2000 box.

Good luck!
