things use to work, then one day the laptop could nolonger see the desktop.
but vice versa works fine. Both can connect to the internet and connect
through a router...pretty normal setup.

i got fed up, restored my laptop completly and downloaded all the upgrades.
there is no change, still having the same problem. I have run the wizard
over and over again and though it seems like its working right, it never
seems to work. the only difference im seeing this time after restoring my
laptop is when i click on MY NETWORK PLACES, my only option is My MSN WEB
SITES. I dont use MSN, even uninstalled it off my laptop. i no longer get
the 3 things that are usually there which i forget what they are off hand.
Both computers are set to use MSHOME also. once in a while, ill actually see
the MSHOME on the laptop. Ill click it, it searches for about 2 min, then
comes back finding nothing, not even itself.

Why isnt this working???

Hi Greg,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more direct help, let's look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net
config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose
the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):
