Get an error when trying to see the other computer

Hi

I'm attempting to set up a home network using a D-Linke 604 router. I
have a desktop and laptop connected to this router. The router is connected
to FIOS (Fiber internet). Both computers can surf the web with no problems.
On the laptop and desktop, I used the network wizard. Each is assigned the
workgroup name: mshome. Both the desktop and laptop have unique names. The
router acts as a DHCP server and "sees" both computers and has assigned IPs
to both. I've also enabled file and print sharing on both computers and then
enabled sharing on the My Documents folder on each computer (i.e. the little
hand is cupping the folder icon)

Yet, when I use Windows Explorer, naivigate to My Network Places/Entire
Network/Microsoft Windows Network/Mshome, I receive the following error
window:

"Mshome is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available."

Can any of the MVPs shed any light?

vince, i'm not an MVP but have had the same error message in identical
circumstances with similar hardware as you so maybe the steps i took might
help

first check that windows firewall is disabled on each computer for the
network connection you are trying to set up
second, are you using any third party firewalls or internet security
packages? I had to configure my Norton Internet Security to allow the network
to be accessed so you may need to do the same depending on what you are
using. i only set permissions for the specific computers on my network and
ran a couple of online security scanners to check i hadnt left any holes
found the above in a post by someone i can't find now so apologies for not
crediting them, whoever you are!

Thanks, I'll look into it.

I have Zone Alarm installed on the Desktop and Norton Internet security on
the Laptop.

Does any one else have tips?
