I have a HP desktop with a Netgear hub, I also have a HP notebook. When my
internet provider installed my DSL I set up the hub, the Wireless has
internet capabilities but I can't share files or printers. When I try to set
up the desktop as the host by running the network setup wizard I select a
connection method of "This computer connects directly to the internet, naming
it Host, I get "an error occured ..." So then I tried to set it up by
selecting "other", then "this computer connects to the internet directly or
through a network hub. Other computers on my network also connect to the
internet directly or through a hub. When I do that it completes the wizard,
I can see both the Host and the Mobile but it won't let me access the Mobile,
"\\Tammy is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this
network. The network path was not found.

It sounds like you've correctly got connectivity but you haven't told each
computer what to share with the other. You still need to designate
folders, drives, printers etc. to be shared.

Tammy,

How exactly is your equipment connected? Please provide a precise description.

Is the Desktop connected directly to the Internet, with the Mobile (is that its
name or description?) connected to the Desktop? If so, then please read this
article:

If could be a firewall issue. You need to correctly set it up and make sure
on the computer that is having the problem (\\Tammy), you enable File and
Printer Sharing in the firewall.

The desktop is connected to the web with a DSL modem and the netgear hub.
The notebook is a wireless adapter. I can see it as part of the network on
the notebook but I can't see the desktop. The desktop won't let me access
the notebook. I have set up the exceptions on the firewall to allow each
computer to access the other, I set up file and print sharing on both, I have
shared files on both and shared the printer which is connected to the desktop.

I'm still lost...

Tammy,

This sounds like a typical browser conflict (I am not discussing Internet
Explorer here). Read this article, with an open mind:

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall. There are other possibilities too. What firewall
did you setup exceptions in? What antivirus protection do you use? Read this
article with an open mind.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Download browstat per instructions.
Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely:
