network yes, internet no - too

I have the same symptom as Michael. The problem started
when I downloaded some software called "eAcceleration" to
scan my computer for the Sasser worm. The scan found no
worm, but when I tried to remove the irritating
eAcceleration program because of its popups, I found it
had no uninstall. Using Norton Cleansweep and System
Maintenance and deleting four or five left over files in
the folder eAcceleration created for itself, eAcceleration
was gone. But the next time I booted the computer, my
Internet access was gone, too. I restored the files from
the Recycle folder and restored what Cleansweep had
removed, but I still have no Internet access. (The other
computers on the network still have internet access.)

I appreciate any advice of what to do short of re-
installing XP. Thanks, Fred.

Google Ad-Aware, SpyBot or both. Install and scan for malware and
hijacks. Open Internet Options \ Connections and see if a proxy is
listed. Remove it.

Ran SpyBot and removed the items that it found. Checked
Internet Options \ Connections but had no proxy. Rebooted
computer but still get "Cannot find Server - Microsoft
Internet Explorer" message. Any other ideas?

If you have dialup connection, go to device manager and
see if the modem is still working properly. If dsl, check
to see if the network adapter is ok.

If all else fails (cable, dsl or dialup) try
uninstalling and reinstalling the ISP software. Hope
this helps. Wayne B.

Two possible fixes:

1. Download LSPFix on another computer, copy it to a floppy disk or
CD, and run it on your computer to remove "eAcceleration", if present,
from the chain of layered service providers:

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

2. Restore your computer to a time before you downloaded
"eAcceleration": Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools |
System Restore.

what i would do is a system restore to see if this brings
it all back if not make sure you go to add remove
programmes to remove the accelerator software good luck.
