network slow after upgrade to win2000

Due to work, I upgraded one of my win98se machines to win2kpro. Connections
before from win98se to win98se were not much slower than as if the drives
were on local machine. Connections on the win2k machine(finding) now take
many minutes. The win98se machines run into rights and password barriers
browsing to the win2k machine.
VPN via cable modem connects, but is ever so slow.
What can I do to facillitate these connections?

Make sure you have the latest Windows 2000 drivers for all
of your modem and network devices. A quick check out on
windowsupdate.microsoft.com should do the trick.

I hope that helps...
