I know I can use RIS server for a unattended network installation
but...
is there a way to install WindowsXP from an FTP,HTTP or SMB share like
you can do with Linux?
it would be very convenient for a notebook without a working optical
drive

thnx

No. One of the requirements for installing Windows XP
is a working CD drive. If you have a defective CD drive,
how would you install your programs?

input:
Yes, absolutely. I and others have installed hundreds of systems by
booting from the network and loading Windows via SMB (Samba,
actually).

See <http://unattended.sourceforge.net/>.

looks really interesting and the package already features the right
driver for the NIC :D

something so obvious for older windows versions and all linux distro's
moving forward is not always for the better for MS users so it seems :/

thnx
