Network share authentication

I would like to create a network share on an XP computer
that forces a remote user to enter authentication
credentials(username/password). Like how the C$ share
does. Anyone know how to accomplish this?

Thanks,
Jeremy

If you are usinig Windows XP Home Edition, the best you can do is allow a share user read access only or full access. If you are using XP Professional, you have more capabilities using the Guest account. Here is a link to a Microsoft page containing some information that may help you. You can be more specific about the kind of access you grant to a guest

However, I too wish there was some way to have a share user enter an ID and password. Although maybe not the final security measure, for us home users, that would be a great addition.
