Network Setup Wizard problem

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP2 running on one desktop.
This Desktop is connected to DSL via a2Wire Home Portal Residential Gateway.
I am trying to network my boys desktop running Win98 SE to this gateway. I
did this successfully when I was using a cable modem and Linksys NR401
Router. When I try to run the Network Setup Wizard, it seems to hang. It
does this when utilizing the XP CD as well.

Both computers have NETBEUI installed and are connected through Ethernet
cards. Computer 1 has Realtek 8139A 10/100 and Computer 2 has Dlink
DFE530+TX. Just trying to reestablish a network connection to both. Thought
about repairing the XP install, but don't know why Network Setup Wizard quits.
Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?

My network wizard also hangs when I try to use it both from the computer and
the CD?

My network is connected via an Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro 4-port DSL
modem/router and all computers are running Win XP pro.

I too have been considering a reinstall of XP if there is no other way!

Despite what it tells you, it isn't necessary to run the Network Setup
Wizard on either computer.

On the XP computer, go to Device Manager, un-install the Ethernet
card, reboot, and let it re-install the card.
