Network/Reference errors when I bring database from home to work

I've been working on a database at home, and when I bring a copy into work on
a CD it always has either a Network Connection error or a Reference error of
some sort. I have Access 2000 at home and in the office so there shouldn't
be any compatibility problems. Any ideas on why I'm experiencing these
issues?

The References error is likely due to differences in what software's
installed on your machines at home and at the office.

The Network Connection error could be because your home machine hasn't had
all of the Office service packs installed: that sounds like a particularly
nasty bug that was fixed in one of the Office 2000 SPs.

Thanks for the response, but I believe I have downloaded all the Service Paks
to my home system. Since I have always used it for work projects I try to
keep upto date on the downloads. As for the References - I like I have more
software on my home machine than the office. I take a look at the References
from home tonight and uncheck any that may not be on the office equip.

Again, Thanks

It's not simply ones that may not be on the Office machine. If they're not
the same version, you can run into problems.

Fortunately, it's only a problem with those references that you're actually
using: you don't have to go through the whole list!

Well, it gets better - I guess the problem actually started at home this
time. I had worked on the database Sat morn and then downloaded some updates
and didn't get back into it. I sent the originally request for help from
work and when I got home I started to work on it again only to have the
"Network may have been lost" come up on my home system. Now for the good
part - It only does this on the one database. I can open and run any other
database without problems. Because of this error I can't change the
references or do anything else that might fix the problem. Do you know what
patch will help in this situation? I looked at the updates earlier but I
couldn't find one that addressed this. Sorry to be such a pain.
Thanks for your help and input.

Well, it certainly sounds like the problem described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=304548 (which is supposed to be corrected
by Office 2000 SP3) If it is that issue, then unless you can follow the
instructions in the Resolution section, your only recourse is to go to a
recent backup.

Thanks Douglas
I'm going to look for all the updates that I haven't downloaded and do them
including SP3. I appreciate all you help.

a) are you using your mdb over a wireless network?

you can't use mdb over a wireless network.

more importantly; mdb over a wired network isn't reliable enough for a
single user and a single record.

i would reccomend throwing away MDB in it's entirety and upgrading it
to SQL Server and Access Data Projects.

if you're a carpenter and your hammer keeps on failing then you had
better get a better hammer!

No, I'm not working or using a wireless network.

Think we've figured out the problem - seems I'm missing a Service Pak from
MS trying to get it downloaded now but also having problems with the install.
Hopefully MS gets this straightened out for me.

Thanks for the response and info - I'll keep in mind if I ever go wireless.

you PAID MICROSOFT to figure out why MDB is so ####ing flaky?

kinda like asking Satan 'why am i a sinner'

No, I'm not paying MS for their help. The help I received was free and they
did figure out the problem and get it fixed. I may not like everything about
MS but from what I've seen they are about the best system to use. And maybe
with your attitude you should stop anwsering question their support site.

this isn't their support site.

it is a public newsgroup.

it just so happens to have microsofts' name on it.
