Network PW retained in Outlook - Registery update no help

Outlook not keeping network PW even though I selected keep PW option when
adding new email accounts. I updated the system registery per Microsoft
Knowledge Base article 290684 with no luck. I'm running Outlook 2002 SP3 and
XP Pro version 2002 SP2. I receive emails from multiple POP3 mail servers and
it's strange that some of my accounts work OK but other accounts always
prompt me for the network PW? Any ideas are much appreciated!

Dear BCRider,

There are now three of us and the list is growing fast. See post of
"Frustrated", earlier in this forum. Outlook is keeping two passwords (in
two other accounts on this computer), but not keeping a third (my own).
Still looking for a fix - the article re regedit found on the microsoft site
did not fix the problem.

Hey Randy,

Per instructions from MS Support, just changed my check frequency to 10
minutes from 2 minutes and deleted/reinstalled all email accounts (I have 8).
Does not look like this is working however since I'm still getting prompted
for a PW. I noticed on one of my computers that has an older version of
Outlook I'm not seeing the problem, so the bug must have been introduced in
recent SP's. I'll post if I find something else.

FYI, I was able to fix my problem using the following steps:

1. set outlook to check for mail at no less than 10min intervals
2. delete all email accounts from outlook.
3. remove user account info from the protected system provider subkey (see
Knowledge Base article 290684).
4. add email accounts to outlook per instructions in Knowledge Base article
290684.
