Network problems with a wired network

I am experiencing some strange problems with my wired network.
all my PC's are connected to a Belkin router
I have a PC connected to the network running fine with no problems. all the
seetings are on automatic.

I have a second PC which when connected to the network says ot has limited
or no availability to the network..however the IP address in the connection
detials is completely different to the settings configured on the router. the
IP address settings always start 169.254.205.xxx, however I am using stantard
settings on the router 192.168.2.xxx. When I attempt to manually reconfigure
the settings the network connection works but activity is only being sent
fromt he PC and nothing is recieved.

I can ping the router but nothing else.

I have reset the router with no success

suggestions welcomed

I'll ask the obvious question, have you tried using a different
ethernet cable on the problem machine? How about changing the
network card?

When you configure the second PC's network settings manually, be sure
to use the router's LAN address (probably 192.168.2.1) as the default
gateway and DNS server addresses.

The message about limited availability on the network means that the
computer is configured to obtain an IP address automatically, but it
can't communicate with the router's DHCP server to get an address.
After trying and failing, the computer assigns itself an "automatic
Private IP" address in the 169.254.x.x range, which can't access the
Internet or other computers on the network. Make sure that the
router's DHCP address pool is big enough to give addresses to all of
the computers.
