I have a destop and a laptop computer. Both have Windows
XP installed with SP1. The desktop is hard wired to a
Linksys wireless router and the laptop has a wireless
card. My network was just fine until a week ago. I
installed Norton 2004 Antivirus on the laptop about the
same timd the network went south, not sure if this had
anything to do with the problem. I have turned off the
firewall on both computers. I can get on the internet
with both computers but they cannot see each other. the
desktop address is 192.168.1.100 subnet is 255.255.255.0,
the laptop address is the same except ---.101. When I
ping from the laptop I get a response, but when I ping
from the desktop it times out. When I click on the folder
MSHOME on both computer I get an error message, "Mshome
not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. etc" Can anyone tell me what is going
on??? Thank You Genes

Check if the Norton Antivirus 2004 has a build in
firewall...I seem to remember that it does...disable all
internet related security in Norton 2004 and then try
again to ping your laptop.
Let me know if it helps.

Thanks JR, I have Norton Systems works 2004 on the
desktop and Norton Internet Security 2004 on the Laptop.
There is as radio button on the Norton Internet security
2004 which has a firewall option. I turned it off and
walla!!! The network works. I'm not sure what virus
protection I have now. I have a router which is suposed
to have a firewall built in but don't understand how all
that works. Thanks again for the advice. Genes
