Network problem - should be simple!

I've added a new system to my small LAN (connected directly to my router -
i.e. same network segment as my main system). I can ping it by IP address
from my system, and I can ping it by name from my system - both successful.
I can ping the gateway from the new system - but I cannot ping my system
from the new system. Net view to the new system does not work from my
system - it gives a "System error 53 has occurred" message - "The network
path was not found".

Under XP I can see the new system in my "view workgroup computers" (I am not
running a domain) - but when I try to access the new system in that window I
get a message: \\Computername is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the admninistrator etc. The
network path was not found.

I have made the hard drive on the new system 'shared' - I want to use files
and settings transfer to set up the data on the new system.

The new system is seeing the Internet with no problem, and is showing up as
a DHCP client on the router.

I don't remember having a problem like this before - so I'm puzzled, and a
bit frustrated! :-^)

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong? What might I try or look at? Do
you need anymore information? How would I access a suitable troubleshooter?

Many thanks, jfc.

You need to have a account on the new system with the same username and
password as your OLD system and you need to share something on the new
system.

OK - I have set one up - however, this does not seem to have solved the
problem. Shouldn't I be able to see my old system in the My Network window
anyway?

Thanks for the input ~ jfc.

Problem solved! (I think :-^) - I was using the same name as a previous (now
uninstalled) system on the network - so I changed the name of the new system
and it seems to be OK now. Thanks for the inputs! ~ jfc.
