Network Printing

I have an IBM Infoprint 20 with the print server card installed. I have the
printer attached directly to my router as per the install instructions. I
have the printer configured for my network and can even ping its IP address
and find it there. However, when I try to add a network printer, Windows
does not find it. I have tried browsing for the printer and tried connecting
by http to the IP address, neither seems to work. Since it does have a print
server built in and it is Windows compatable, I should not have to attach
this printer to a computer. Anyone have an idea on what I might be doing
wrong here?

Not sure what type of service this printserver provides but:

If it is a netbios service, then first install the driver. Then open the
printer properties and add a new port. Instead of browsing for the printer,
type in:

\\printservername\printername

as the portname, and see if that works. Alternatively you can use

\\ipaddress\printername

which avoids name-resolution problems.

If it's a TCP/IP server (which many printserver-boxes are) you may need to
firstly add the LPR client under Add/remove Programs / Windows Components.
It's in "Other network file and print services" as "print services for Unix."

Then, having installed the printer driver, in the printer properties select
'new port'.. 'local port'... 'lpr port' and enter the printer's IP address.
The portname is generally 'RAW' if not otherwise specified.
