network printer problem

the company is installing a laser cutter onto a single pc that had previously
been used on the network. The printer shows up in the printers & faxes area
and says ready, but we can't print or ping that ip address.

when i installed this using add printer i used the add network printer. It
found the ip port and I can see it found it's correct ip address. I have
uninstalled drivers from server properties and reinstalled but still can't
ping the ip of the laser cutter.

the LAN is working fine and the internet is ok. The printer is going through
a modem /router port. What more can someone suggest to troubleshoot this?

If you are going to use the Add Printer wizard, select Local NOT Network
printer. Clear the Automatically detect check box, and create a standard
TCP/IP port with the correct address.
