Network printer problam

Alun Williams

Hello,

I have a small business network with a dozen pc's of various operating
systems from Win 95, 98, NT Server and XP pro.

I have just added a Win 98 pc with attached printer. All the Win 98 and 95
pc's can see the new machine, share it's printer (file and printer sharing
are turned on) and print to it, but neither of the XP pro machines can see
either the PC itself or the shared printer.

Any suggestions?

Regards

In the XP machine, did you create a network floppy and install it on the
older Win95-98 machines ?

No, but they were already on the network when I got here so it may have been
done previously. I'll try to see how to do this, if I can't get it to work
I'll post back.

Thank you for the pointer.

Didn't work. Thought you'd hit it on the head there but no dice, still can't
see it from the XP machines.

Any other suggestions?

Many thanks

Thank you again. The other office is closed now so I'll have to take a look
in the morning.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, I'll feed back when I've checked it.

It was a protocol issue. The "new" 98 machine didn't have NetBEUI installed.
Once it was installed, there was no problem.

I'm a little confused as to why the 98 machines could see each other before
NetBEUI was installed but the XP machines couldn't see the "new" 98 machine
when, as I understand it, XP doesn't use NetBEUI but hey ho.

Anyway, thanks for your help in this matter, it is much appreciated.

Regards

Alun
