Network Places not refreshing

Fred

After Networking 4 PCs, (2 XP, 2 WIN98SE), i have
returned home with my two PCS (1 XP, 1 Win98SE). I am
trying to network them to share files, but my XP PC is
not refreshing it's Network Places, and is still showing
shared folders from the other PCS from my previous
LANing. The refresh option does nothing, i've restarted
both PCs numerous times. I just can't access or see
either PC. Any help?
Thanks

IMHO,

It won't, period. "My Netowrk Places" only records previous network
access and creates a link for it. You have to locate the computer
manually.

I think that My Network Places will eventually re-discover the shared
disks and folders on the other home LAN computers. Click Tools |
Folder Options | View and make sure that "Automatically search for
network folders and printers" is enabled. If you don't want to wait
for it to happen automatically, click "Add a network place" and do it
manually.

However, it won't automatically remove shortcuts to shared disks and
folders in the previous LAN. Right click them and delete them.

You can access other computers even if nothing appears in My Network
Places. Here are some ways:

1. Click "View workgroup computers".

2. Type another computer's name in the Start | Run box in this format:

\\computer

3. Click Start | Search | Other search options | Computer or people |
A computer on the network.
