Network Path Not Found

S

Solar

I've just setup internet and file sharing between two computers on XP.
Comp. A can access B's drives, but B cannot access A's. File sharing is
installed and permissions given on all related drives. When B is attempting
access of A, I get an error saying, "The network path was not found." This
is so, even though A's drives shows up in the My Network Places panel on B.

Any suggestions?

Check your firewall settings to make sure the IP of the machine is Trusted
(allowed) and not Restricted (blocked).

XP Pro, Comp A 32bit, Comp B 64 bit.

Firewalls, both AVG Pro.

Is "Simple File Sharing" disabled?
Do you have the network icons in the Notification area? Odd as it may seem "Windows
Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing" service may be an issue if it's not running,
I've run into it on a few machines.

If the network icon is in the notification area:
Right click on the icon.
Click "Change windows firewall settings" in the popup menu.
Select to Start in popup.
Close the Windows firewall configuration window and try to connect to the share.

If the icon is not in the notification area:
Click Start > Run, type in: services.msc and press Enter.
Scroll down to "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing".
Right click on it and click Start in the popup menu.
Close out and try to connect to the share.
