Network Path not Found

When I click on "Computers near me" in "My Network Places"
I receive an error message that "The Network Path was not
Found." I receive "System Error 53" when I try "net view."

I am running three PC's (2-win2k and 1-Win98SE) on a
workgroup behind a DSL router. I have checked the network
setup on all three machines and have TCP/IP enabled, all
three have file and print sharing enabled. I found that
one of them, mine (a Win2k machine), has this message
under the "DNS Test" heading when using "netdiag.exe":

[WARNING] Cannot find a primary authoritative DNS server
for th
'scottsman.Humphries.'. [RCODE_SERVER_FAILURE]
The name 'scottsman.Humphries.' may not be registered in
DNS.

What should I do?

Your answer is in your question: "[WARNING] Cannot find a primary
authoritative DNS server".
Have YOU set up a Windows DNS server for YOUR Local Network? Not to be
confused with Internet DNS (W2k & XP use DNS for everything). You want a
Win2K Dynamic DNS Primary Zone for YOUR network. Or some other form of name
resolution.

Ok, but HOW do I do that? When this was first set up it
worked fine without ever having to do this.

Isn't a DNS Server for a domain-based LAN? I thought using
a workgroup didn't require the use of a DNS server. I'm
confused

I sent this the other day but I do not see it here now. So I will post
again. (Yes Dns is over kill if you only have a few machines).

Look for a file on your system called HOSTS. Open it up in notepad. Read the
instructions. Edit the file and save it.
Should fix things for you.
And why it did work and now does not is most likely due to the last service
pack.
