Hi Colin,

1. Setup a username in XP box (with blank password)
2. In the 98 machine (with problem), login as the same user as XP (blank
password a/c)
3. In the XP box, click start > run > gpedit.msc
Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options

Disable the policy:
Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only.
It is enabled by default. Disable it

Make sure that the Server and Netlogon service are started and running.
Did u try the gpedit.msc procedure?
Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options

After doing so, restart Windows XP and 98. Login into 98 system (dont press
ESC)

Server on automatic
Netlogon was manual now automatic but does not start due to being not
required, starts on demand.
I have completed the gpedit procedure.
Rebooted Pc's but still get incorrect password message.

Other 98 Pc still works fine, logs into sharred folders

Dear MVPs: Your insight is highly appreciated on this issue. The same
problem I was facing, now resolved. Home Networking with 98 XP always been a
problem.

98 system (dont

.
Well,I am running XP Home, 98se and NT4.0 Server with no
problems at all.
First thing is make sure all sub nets are the same, assign
ip's, disable network firewall on XP,USE A PASSWORD, NOT A
BLANK, and name the macines individually,(do not use same
password or name on differnt machines)enable tcp/ip and
file and print sharinr and ms windows workgroup.
This is what I have setup and all works well.
98se is setup to log on to the domain,
XP Home requires password to access the server but not
domain(need pro for that)
I dont think I forgot anything, if you need more help,
post back here.
