Network password popup problem

I have Outlook 2003 on two machines, both running XP Pro. Machine1 at home
and Machine 2 at work.

Machine1 (home) is a new machine and the network password popup problem
began after I got that machine and created (not migrated) my Outlook accounts
to it. The machine runs perfectly.

After a few days, I started getting the network password problem. Office
(home edition) was installed when I got the machine. At work, I have Office
Pro, installeld by the company (a giant financial company).

The popup seems to occur when Outlook does its send/receive automatically
only. If I click on send/receive button, no problem. Sometimes, the popups
occur without stop (that is, as soon as I hit "OK", the dialog box would
reappear). This only happened once.

Both Outlooks get mail from three accounts (they do not run at the same
time). The network password issue only happens with one account, and on both
my home and office machines. I've deleted the account, renamed it, several
times, to no avail.

The home machine runs SP2; office is on SP1.

Can someone explain why the problem is intermittent; why it would occur on
both machines (the office machine never had a problem, for years, before the
home machine's problem began)?

THANKS!!!!

Ron,

I have the same problem and posted this question a few days ago. Scanning
through here I notice several people have this problem. I tried removing
from the registry as suggested and I still have the problem. Everything has
worked fine until about two weeks ago and now it is driving me crazy. Have
you found a resolution yet? I think it is an Outlook problem.

Hi. Strangest thing: I renamed the offending account, calling it the same as
my email address (which I hadn't done...I had changed it) and the problem has
stopped...of course, I didn't have the problem for a long time so I cannot
say this cured the issue, but at least I'm not getting the popup.

Thanks for the tip but my account is already the same as the email address
and I still have the popups.
