Hello All,
I have system with network card integrated on
motherboard and Win XP installed. My computer isnt
conected to network.
When is my computer turned on, in control bar the
network status is crossed - it shows the network isnt
available or the network cable istnt conected well. My
computer also don´t have a IP adress when i check it with
ipconfig.
It looks like my computer hasnt turned the service with
automatic IP adress attaching.
My question also is what should I do with the XP, if I
shuld change my Network card or make changes in the
network configuration.

thanx
Paul

Paul,

Please provide a bit of detail about your network. What device issues
configuration / ip address (usually a DHCP server or NAT router)? What other
devices are on the network? Exactly what (device type, make, and model) does
the cable on your computer plug into on the other end?

Cheers,
Chuck

If you aren't connected (physically) to a network, then you don't
normally need an IP address. XP will work just fine without a
network, and you can leave the network chip alone; just ignore the
red X over the network icon.

.
My computer is standalone, also I dont have to a DHCP
server, and my network card isnt conected to any other
devices/computers.
Im asking if its possible to get a IP adress/set it
manualy so I can use the local network services *in some
games is the IP adress requred if i wan´t to play it*
I have seen some computers with similar instalation,
but this problem hasn´t occured, the computer had a
manualy set IP adress and worked w/o problems.
Do you think, it is posible to configure XP so that I
have my own IP adress attached ?
While Im conected to internet over a modem connection,
i have my IP adress, but that comes from the IS provider.

OK, Paul, I think I see what you're asking (not a typical question for this
group but...).

For a computer not connected to a network, you should be able to either manually
assign an ip address, or APIPA should assign you a default if you enable
autoconfiguration. If your game truly requires an ip address.

If your networking is installed, you should be able to configure TCP/IP thru the
networking wizard. Settings - Network Connections - Local Area Connections -
Properties - TCP/IP - Properties - Obtain an ip address automatically - should
get you an APIPA address. Or enter an ip address if you wish.

If his network card has no connection, he'll need to see KB239924 - "How to
disable Media Sense for TCP/IP in Windows" at
