Network Neighborhood won't refresh shared files list

When I click on Network Neighborhood in Explorer, it's showing files and directories ( folders, whatever ) in the list that were shared ages ago but aren't anymore. In fact, one of the PC's in the list hasn't even been connected to the network for about 3 weeks. How do I get XP to keep the list of shared stuff upto date ?

Obsolete entries don't go away automatically. You can right-click and
delete them.

So there's no way XP can keep the list upto date on it's own ? That's pretty bad really.

Thanks for the reply though.

My Network Places on XP is a different creature
from Network Neighbourhood win98.

On win98, you saw the dynamic browse list of computers on the network.
The browse list contains a list of computers, not shared folders.
When you double-click a computer in the browse list
you then request the list of shares from that computer.

The dynamic browse list of computers is still there, but a bit obscure.
Go to My Network Places | Entire Network | MS Windows Network
Browse down through the list of workgroups etc.

In XP's 'My Network Places', you see a list of *shares* on computers, which
are placed there either by an automatic netcrawler discovering them, or by
you visiting the share at some point, or by you explicitly creating the
network place.

These are all shortcuts to shared folders.
You need to manually delete them if you want them to go away.

FWIW, I dislike this too.

You can right click on the shares but no on PC's, so, how can you delete unexisting PC's with in Network Neighborhood?

I would be very interested in knowing how to delete non existing pc's in the
network neighborhood also. Is it possible??
