Network Inventory Software query

If this is in the wrong group could someone please point me in the right
direction.

I'm looking for some network inventory software that will scan a range
of IP's and return a list of all installed apps/serial numbers of
machines etc. I would like to be able to setup the range of I.P or
sites and then rescan once in a while just to check the info is fresh.
I'd prefer something that requires nothing to be installed on the
clients too.

Anyone know of any decent products out there? I'm looking to scan
approx 300 nodes and spend approx £3000 max.

You can also use WMI but that's a lot of scripting work.
