I have 3 PCs on a network. PC 1 has an external Hard
drive connected by USB. The external harddrive is shared
(for access to music and pictures etc). However when PC
1 (which has the drive attached), goes to "sleep", the 2
other PCs can no longer access that drive.
Is there a way to always enable access to the external
drive on the network and still use Power Management
settings on PC 1?

All PCs are XP.

Thanks

bill

Unfortunately i do not believe so, i would sujest using a
screen saver without the welcome screen setting on.

So no "turn off hard disks" or "turn off monitor"?

What is the welcome screen setting?

Bill,

when the computer falls asleep, it can no longer do anything. If
you want it to always be ready to do something, you cannot allow
it to fall asleep. Disable sleep mode in power management.

Isn't there a network setting which can "wake up" the
network when its accessed?

Would it make a difference if I mapped the drive?

Bill,

no. If the computer is in sleep mode, it won't do anything.

Thanks very much for all your input...

If your NIC has a "wakeup on LAN" function...
