network drive credential caching

I have two computers, X and Y. X is a XP Pro SP2 machine. Y is a
Windows Server 2003 machine. Both are part of the same workgroup, but
are not a members of a domain.

Computer X has two accounts, A and B. A is an administrative account
and B is a Backup Operator account. Computer Y has these same two
accounts (except account B is a member of the Users group not backup
operators) with the same username and password for each account, but
the passwords are different between accounts on both machines.

Account B on Computer Y only has access to Folder H, which is shared.

I would like to map a drive on Computer X to Folder H on Computer Y. I
go to My Computer, click map network drive. Type in the name of the
share, click connect as different user, put in the credentials for
account B, and click reconnect at logon. I can now access the files in
this folder. However, when I logoff and log back on, or reboot, I get
the dreaded "Drives were not able to be reconnected" pop-up from
windows. The drive appears in My Computer as a disconnected network
drive, and when I click on it I am prompted to enter my username (which
is already present) and my password. This appears to be working for
other users connecting to their folder on the same server.

I have tried using the "manage network passwords" function located
under the user accounts page in the control panel to no avail.

Using the net use command in a logon script works fine. However, I do
not like having my password stored in cleartext. How do I make windows
XP remember my username and password for this resource?

Make sure that Computer Y has an account/password that is
a) authorised to access the share in question, and
b) is the same as your Compuoter X logon account/password.
