Network Connections gone

Using Windows XP Home, No service pack. 'Network Connections' window is
blank--no connections. Ipconfig shows nothing but the words "Windows IP
Configuration", no IP addresses. Device Manager shows Network Adapter
(Realtek RTL9139 Familt PCI Fast Ethernet NIC) is working.
Cable working, connected in network port with green light on. This computer
is on a router with another computer that has no problem conecting to
internet.
I have tried fixing winsock with WinsockXPFix utility and LSP-fix, and reset
the TCP/IP using netshell. No Change.
I earlier deleted some spyware with AD-aware. Is it possible I deleted
something in the registry that tells the computer to recognise this Network
Adapter?

In windows device manager have you tried to remove the NIC adapter and
then reboot and let windows go through the found new hardware process?

Thanks! Did as you suggested, uninstalled NIC adapter and rebooted, this
re-established the connection.
