Network Connection

A friend has a computer that shows the LAN connection as having a cable off.
I have replaced the NIC, replaced the cable and we had the cable modem
replaced. I did a virus scan and sure enough, the machine was infected. The
virus scan claims to have removed the infection but I still see the LAN
connection as having a cable off. The virus scan was done with AVG, the NIC
is a Realtek RTL8139. Does anyone have any ideas on what we could try to get
the Internet connection back up again?

Many thanks,

Wynn Rostek

Open a command prompt and enter:
ipconfig /release
and then
ipconfig /renew

Try deleteing the NIC from the device manager and rebooting. It might automagically get fixed when
hardware is reinstalled by Windows.
