I have configured the network between my 2 laptops, but
when I go to "my network places" there is nothing on and
if I click on "view workgroup computers" there's an error
msg saying that the network is not accessible and that I
might not have the permisson to use the network
ressource. And this happens in both computers.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Greetings Max,

Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled. It will block file and printer
sharing. It is only intended for direct connections to the Internet. If you
installed a third party firewall, make sure it isn't blocking access between
the machines. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

That error is pretty generic and it doesn't tell you anything except there
is a
problem with the network. It is followed by a more specific message.

Thank you for the info,
Excuse my ignorance but how do you disable XP's firewall?
I've checked in the network connection properties and it
is not enabled. Then I have Norton Internet Security, but
I have configured the firewall to accept the IP coming
from the other computer.
Again in the network connection properties I can see that
they both use TCP/IP.
Finally, the error msg also says that I have to contact
the administrator to chack if I have the access
authorisations.
Do you still have any ideas?
Thanks a lot

I have checked all of these and they seem to be properly
configured.
How do I check that I am logged on as an administrator
since the problem seems to come from there?
Thank you again

Greetings Max,

What version of XP are you using?

Greetings Max,

Norton Internet Security does have a firewall so make sure it is properly
configured.

You can configure the XP firewall. Details here.

I have the same problem when trying to connect to the network. When i configure my ip configurations manually i am able to see the entire network, but when i try to explore the servers i get the error message "..." is not accessible and that I
might not have the permisson to use the network. Let me know if you find a solution. Thanks.

Paul, is that the entire error? That error is pretty generic. It doesn't
tell you anything except there is a problem with the network. Most likely it
is followed by a more specicific message. If you see the error again, please
post the exact error from start to finish.

the error message: "\\server is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission....network path not found" im using xp pro. i installed a workstation prior to this one and it worked fine. Everything was set to default. All i had to do was install the network driver and i was able to connect to the network with all ip configurations set to default.

I too have this problem

"(domainname) is not accessible. You might not
have the permission to use this network ressource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available

It has only started happening today and it happens for all users including administrators, but only from one particular PC.
All others are still fully functiona

Possible clue to the cause
I also note that prior to browsing to the domain name i browse to the Microsoft Windows Network Icon.. and normally there are two others Win Terminal servers and Web Client Network, but since this has started the second two icon dont appear either..

I would love to hear anyones ideas on what causes this behavio

Thanks Nick

Hi, Nick

Maybe you should check this MS article -->
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318245
Is this computer a member of a domain or Workgroup?
Maybe restore to an earlier time would not be a bad solution?
