Network Connection Using High CPU Resource

I

Idham

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my PC network connection. My PC is a Celeron
1.8Ghz connected on a 1 Mbps DSL line thru a DSL router. It's running
Windows XP SP2. The problem I have is when I turn on the router and
the DSL is connected, my CPU resource spikes up to 100% in the Windows
Task Manager. I sort the processes in the Task Manager and there's a
process called 'System' that alternates with the 'System Idle Process'
having the highest CPU utilization.

I have no idea what services run under the 'System' process and I'm
100% confident it's not a spyware/adware problem. There's no network
activity going on, but as soon as I switch the router off the 'System'
process drops to almost 0% CPU activity.

Any insight to this issue will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Is your computer 100% virus and malware-free? If you think so, what did
you do to determine this?
