Try disabling QoS on your network properties:

1 Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet...>Network Connections
2 On the Network Connections window, right click your network connection and
click properties
3 Uncheck Qos Packet Scheduler
4 Click OK
5 On the left under Network Tasks, click on Repair this connection

Hello Paulibus,

thank you for the suggestion. I thought about peforming the steps you
outline below. I have a concern in doing so. I have owned this computer for
more than three years. I have not changed the net card. I install the
Microsoft updates automatically. I have used the same DSL modem/router for
six months. I haven't had problems with network connectivity on the computer
before. the past connectivity issues have been with the modem/router or the
ISP. the other computer on my network is working fine. This issue just
started happening over the last fourteen days. I can't recall hardware or
software that has changed in that time. If the QoS is working improperly,
then why suddenly? what happened?

Hey Michael,

Smells like a hardware problem. You could try is swapping the network cards
between your computers, to see if the error moves with the card, or just
installing a new card. You might want to try updating the driver, before
spending any money.

Years ago, I used to want to know the cause of a problem as well as the
solution. But, computers have gotten so complex, that it's more effort than
it's worth to determine why something happened, particularly if the fix is
somthing simple.

Good Luck.
