When trying to install a network card in my HP computer
the machine will not reboot with card installed. (Bog
standard PCI card, nothing fancy!) Boots without card but
not with it. Using BT voyager system, second computer on
XP Pro re-boots fine. Software loaded without problems.
Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe a conflict. Try different PCI slots.

Thanks, have tried the second free slot, same problem,
tried a Belkin card instead of BT one, same problem. Just
will not boot beyond start screen, any other ideas,
grateful for any contribution! Thanks.

The easy answer is to get an USB nic. But that would be cheating and not
any fun.

Okay, second guess - Do you have other network connections and are they
working? I'm thinking that something is wrong with your network setup. Is
this by chance a second nic? Do you have AOL installed?

Another possibility is a conflict of software. Go into msconfig and disable
all startup programs and then see if it boots. If it does, re-enable the
items that you need.
