network cable unplugged

I have connected my desktop & HP pavilion Laptop thru a
crossover cable. I have an Integrated 10/100 Lan card on
te notebook & When I try to connect to the desktop using
the network wizard, I get an error which says "Network
Cable Unplugged". Any auggestions.

Make sure that both computers are turned on and that their network
connections are enabled.

If they are, and if the "unplugged" message still appears, I suspect
that it isn't a properly wired crossover cable
